FOUR-HANDED FREEDOM: THE WORKSHOPS THAT TEACH PIANO STUDENTS HOW TO IMPROVISE
Four-handed Freedom is a method for teaching students to improvise in teams. Simply put, it’s more fun to improvise with other people, and these workshops are designed to nurture this fact and to help build teams which will last beyond the scope of the workshop.
Students who will benefit the best from our workshops will have a basic command of:
- C, F, G and Bb Major and Minor Scales
- All major and minor triads and inversions.
- Dominant 7th Chords
We will learn to improvise on:
- A call and response tune
- A basic blues
- A basic swing song
- A basic waltz
- A funk song
All material used in the workshop are originals by Annie Avery and Grant Simpson.
Print material, lead sheets, and further study considerations are provided at the workshop.
